THE PANTRY is where we keep all our staples -- the scents we have on-hand that comprise our General Catalogue. This list is constantly expanding and may, at some point, be broken down further into categories. But for now, all of the general catalogue scents are listed here.
Each scent is linked to its counterpart in the shop, so you can access them easily, and ALL General Catalogue scents are always available as cupcakes, too.
If you're looking for the limited edition or seasonal scents, those live here, instead.
AFTERNOON'S BAKING
Fresh from the oven, still warm on a china plate -- chocolate almond fruit tarts with sweetly gingered honey. Happy Housewife is not responsible if you are pounced, licked, or otherwise tasted while wearing this scent. Very sweet for the sugar-lovers among you.
SAIL ON, SILVERGIRL (new 9/08)
Sail on, silvergirl
Sail on by…
Your time has come to shine,
And your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine…
Lilac over effervescent, sparkling aquatic notes with a touch of sweetness and spice. A touch of green at the heart for new growth, and a drizzle of frankincense to keep your feet rooted in memory.
FRESHMAN, THE (new 9/08)
Remember that first day of classes? New school, new faces, new layout, new ways to get lost?
And remember how there’s always that one boy…? The one that you notice, even in the sea of unfamiliar faces, and you just know you’re going to need a bonfire and a pilfered bottle of Strawberry Hill to make it happen, but it’ll happen, because the angels are singing when you look at his face? (Or maybe you were that boy?)
Yeah.
The amber musk of love at first sight mixed with the green and new smell of vetiver, deepened with natural tonka absolute.
It’ll happen.
THE IVORY MERCHANT
All dark wood and rattan, The Ivory Merchant is a heady mix of black and rooiboos teas, a mug of spiced chai, cakes and sweet breads. Orange blossoms flit through the breeze and beyond, the exotic jungle awaits. It's sweet without being foody, and green-citrus without being leafy.
The soap is our typical blend with powdered cocoa mixed throughout and dusted lightly over the top.
ARCHAEFRUCTIS
The Archaefructus sinensis ("The Fruit of China") is thought by paleobotanists to be the first flowering fruit plant -- the mother of all fruits we now know.
We imagine this is what its scent was like: primordeal and verdant, like hardwoods and tibetan juniper, with a musky amber at its base to add a certain lustiness to its first fruit.
Typical soap base, darkened with chocolate and silk for the senses.
GOOD MORNING
Three oranges and some spicy lemongrass mint, with a sweet lime squeezed over the batch. You'll wake up, all right. Also good as a pick-me up midday. Cool, citrusy, and sweet without decaying your olfactory teeth. (5 cupcakes available, 12 1" bars of layering-strength soap)
BRIDGE PARTY
summer orange grove, laid over with licorice bridge mix on the breeze.
DIRTY JACK (bestseller!)
Hardwoods and salt air, touched with chocolate and key limes, and wafting of men's cologne and rum on the salted breeze. Soap made with a chocolate base and contains silk proteins for exceptionally smooth lather for your bod.
VACUUMING IN PEARLS
The sweetness of peaches and apricots and cream, with the contrast of deep blackcurrant, all underscored with a dainty posy of seemingly-innocent summer blooms.
WEDNESDAY'S MARKET
Sugars and fruits, baking in the sunshine of an open-air market. The green fields and waving grasses are a welcome respite from the day's steamy shopping.
DAY OF THE DEAD
October spices with fresh honey-almond offering-cakes, drizzled with chocolate and the scent of frost in the air.
BRAIN BLEACH
Green vines and rosemary's sting over ozone and wood. Light and wet summer flowers and fruits dusted with mint and a brain-clearing blast of tangerine to rid the mind of all that ails it. Even if that involves Really Bad Internet Speedo-camshots of Ernest Borgnine.
FARMGIRL
Farmgirl, the scent, is all embroidered cotton aprons in the sunshine, mossy and fertile earth and a bit of sawdust for the chickens. Off in the distance, the tomatoes are ripening, the freshly-mown hay is drying, and a cherry pie is cooling on the windowsill. (oil may be better than soap, even.)
TIMESTREAM aka Doc's Banana
Ancient incenses and resins, hardwoods, blended with ozone and futuristic fruits and space-age candies. Over it all, a fleeting glimpse of a yellow rose.
SUNDAY LONGING
A glass of wine, a bouquet of lover's flowers. Sweet, ripened strawberries and flowing lace curtains. And just a touch of leather. For later.
OPIUM DEN
Dark woods and a haze of intellectual superiority, with a self-indulgent, hedonistic bent. Three types of whiskey, a glass of deep red wine, a cup of strong black coffee, and a the scent of a lover's tears.
21, THE HARD WAY
Sweet havana cigar wrappers and sawdust smoke. A hardwood table that's nocked with the aces and paint of a thousand lucky hands. A cup of strong black coffee to keep your nerves sharp, and the cinnamon burn of a 21 natch.
Dusted with cocoa -- silk proteins and luxury oils in the base.
Blackjack.
CULTIVATED PEARLS
In a base of rich butters mixed with silk and cashmere proteins, swirled with white clays and faint purple.
This is a dressed-up cocktail scent, with sharp asian fruits and flowers garnishing the side of a glass made of fresh bamboo, steeping something green with your tea and orange-almond cookies. All you're missing is rum.
SINFLOWER
Silk and cashmere in the base, along with cocoa butter and rich coconut. Swirls of dark chocolate to add a little decadence. Sinflower is a blend of lusty summer flowers in full-bloom, a spike of Hawaiian Gingerflower for an exotic touch, some sugar, some spice, and a light swirl of citrus at the top to make it appear more innocent than it is.
We know better.
OMFG ZOMBIEZ!
Deep, dank earth, like that in a dying forest, heavy with leaves, mosses and a little blood accord, mixed with sugary brainmeats. (Which, oddly, have the scent of sugared fruits...to a zombie, at least.)
STATE FAIR
Hot summer days and steamy summer nights under the brightly-colored canopies, waiting for the breeze that carries the surrounding fields' greenness to your face. The ballycry from afar brings sweet treats in its wake -- caramel apples, buttery funnel cakes, warm smoky candies -- and the barkers promise stuffed animals and trinkets from its polished-wood games, weighted toward the house. Foody, green, and woodsy, with a side of sultry heat.
EMBROIDERED LINENS
Is there anything so comforting as the fresh scent of new linens on the line, drying in the summer sunshine? Crisp white flowers, linen and cotton and a touch of clean, green grass infused by a hot sun, returning a just-new innocence to long-stored heirlooms.
SODA JERK
Paper hats and fizzy concoctions galore -- colas and floats, some sassafras and a floating cherry on top. Soap base is a swirled mix containing silk proteins for extra-rich lather, and sprinkled with real sassafras. Smells divine and nostalgic, all at once.
CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE OR SOLD OUT SCENTS
LIME AND VIOLET (being reformulated)
The expected citrus and floral, with a touch of the bathtub full o' gin and a side of caramel macchiato. Because it just wouldn't be us without the caffeine, you know. Citrusy, with a drydown of tipsy floral.
LADIES' AUXILLIARY (awaiting reformulation)
Tart red berries mask a bit of stressed-out lemon sponge cake underneath. Only the gardener knows for sure.
PLURKNANNER (soap only, one-shot -- SOLD OUT)
What would a soap that commemorates the knitterliness of Plurk be, if it wasn't chock-full of additives to soften you up? Cashmere proteins (thank you to Stacy from Tempted for the raw fiber!) and silk proteins add a lather that's both creamy and shines. The scent is pure bananas foster -- dripping with a chocolate base, smooth caramel, and a hint of rum. And banana. Of course. But you knew that already.
KITCHEN SINK (soap, oil - SOLD OUT, being reformulated)
For the cook and her kitchen, this soap is made with bright citrus notes combined with just the right amount of green essential oils and put into a creamy soap base (for moisturizingoverwashed hands). Mixed into the base are grains of real organic, fair-trade coffee, which help to not only give it a scent when it's wet, but also to remove kitchen smells from your hands. Even the stubborn ones. (Garlic, anyone?) Coffee only appears in the soap version; the oil has a bit of coffee extract added to balance it, instead. This was a prototype, and is being reformulated to have a little more scrubby action.
BLUEBERRY FIELDS (soap only -- SOLD OUT)
A mix of blueberries and green leaves, with just a small touch of lemongrass to emphasize the sweetness of the ripe berries.
ORGANZA FRILLS (currently unavailable, reformulating)
Fruited violets with a bottom note of a well-used bottle of ouzo. Party time! Dark blue and purple soap is topped with rosebuds.
GARDEN APRON (SOLD OUT)
Y'know that feeling? That one where you hold the first fruits of the garden in your hand, surrounded by the lush greenness you've cultivated, smelling the fertile earth on your hands that's mixing with the scent of the grass and the wild sagey herbs? How you can stand there and know you *made food*? This is what that's like. Lots of dirt and green, and just a touch of the spark of bright life as it roars into bloom.
